The MUCESA trust kindly put together an event at the Awapuni Racecourse to hear Nigel Latta speak. His ideas were targeted to business leaders, school leaders and principals.
Not only was this a great time to network but it also provided us a great opportunity to hear him put things into perspective. Some key ideas he spoke about were:
- Interesting comment about the MLE’s - They will reflect the future working environment. However, they don’t necessarily work with younger children.
- Skills are becoming more important than degrees.
- Looking smart means we can make mistakes as failures = learning. Have collective responsibility, whether in a school or buisiness.
- Evolving curriculum: Everything is reliant on Technology. The amazing comparison was highlighted with the amount of Kodak staff (Hundreds) who lost their jobs from the age of digital cameras and then when Instagram sold to Face-book, Instagram only had 6 or 7 staff which shows technology evolving and our schools and work environments aren’t keeping up with the movement.
- The idea of Looking backward, looking down, and one other were aspect you need to leave behind.
- Forward direction: collaboration creativity cooperation
- Simplicity - Always focus on the most simple way
- 46% of today jobs will not exist in 2 decades
- As a leader it is important to show you value your staff by letting them take on projects they are passionate about and being there even they fail. Showing support and trust in your staff and kids is highly important and integral.
- Giving kudos and recognising when staff to a good job is so important. Build people up leads to stronger team leading to better environment and harder workers.
- Do as much as you can with the time you have, cut what you don't need.
